iKatha - Social Stories App for Indian Context:

Social stories help children and persons with Autism get prepared for new and difficult situations and help them remember to follow rules in certain environments.

iKatha is an amazing social story app that is designed for the Indian context. Ver1.0 of the app has two stories. Future versions will have more stories and customizable design where you can add your own stories. It has explicit photographs and a clear female voice which help the child or person with Autism understand the content of the story easily. The user interface is easy to use and navigate.

iKatha is launched by Prayas, a Computer and iPad Training Programme for Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders; initiated by Autism Society of India.

Social Stories in iKatha ver1.0

1.Taking care of my Computer / IPAD – Technology such as computers and iPADs are wonderful tools for children and adults with Autism and helps them learn, spend their leisure time, helps them with their creativity and interact with friends on Social networks. Often they are not very careful and many keypads are lost to spills and bangs and tablets are broken due to rough handling. This social story will help children to remember to take care of the computers and iPads better.

2.Celebrating Diwali – Many children with Autism find it difficult coping with the Diwali festival .The loud fire crackers, bright fireworks, many people visiting home and lots of sweets to eat can cause sensory overload and result in the child/person avoiding or refusing to participate in the festivities .This app helps them prepare for what is in store and rehearse strategies that help them cope better which will mean a happier Diwali for all – the child and their family.
